Fenwick goes online…..at last

We’re just checking that you all know the department store chain is Fenwick is now online. Until about a month or so ago it was possibly the last retailer left standing not to have an ecommerce website, but now has a rather lovely one.

Fenwick is like the bohemian little sister of John Lewis, grounded in sensibility like JL but with a prettier, more feminine boho vibe. At least the Bond Street store is, which is my local; one of the odd quirks of the still privately owned chain is that each store (there are 11) does its own buying, which means they all have their own personality in terms of stock.

The new ecommerce site gives each store its own webpage, which cleverly nurtures the idea that each one is unique, but you only get to shop the Bond Street branch for product. This suits me fine and I love the pretty, easy to navigate set up with the jaunty moving models, it’s really charming.

The styling is relaxed and inspiring and uses good imagery to show clothes off well.  I go to Fenwick for accessories and quirky brands with that hippy vibe, so I loved the silk scarf dress by Johnny Was (below) and the rose quartz and hoop earrings by Wendy Mink (further below). There are lovely things by Helene Berman, Tara Jarmon and Goat, the beauty pages are also good.

It seems like there’s just a small selection offered for sale currently, although it’s a well curated story and it’s quite refreshing not having to trawl through too much, but  I hope it gets extended for autumn 2012. Yes, it’s pricey, but the good news is the sale starts on Tuesday…so might be a good time to check it out.

this is the worst online site I have come across, have spent over an 1hr trying to find other departments apart from womens, it would be a good idea to get some one who knows what they are doing to design your online site, or am I the only one that finds it difficult to use. You may have lost hundreds of sales because of this.
