Buy this: Whistles Limited Edition

Good clothes ranges are becoming like Olympic gold medalists, wait for years for one to love then loads turn up in a fortnight. Yesterday it was J Crew (please hurry up with that London shop opening Mr Drexler) and today we have the Limited Edition of incredibly wearable clothes from Whistles.

Try and ignore the 16 year old model and the sky high stilettos here and imagine these clothes on you; that varsity-style leather and wool bomber above left looks a dream to wear over everything- brilliant over pencil skirts or jeans. Whistle’s CEO Jane Shepherdson is a real trouser expert, she lives in them, so it’s not surprising there’s a good selection of them here, but what I really like is how comfy-but-stylish the shapes look. The colour block jacket in silk crepe below is nicely neat but not too skinny and I SO want those side-stripe trousers. These are clothes to wear anywhere.

The range is being made in small quantities- just 20-50 pieces of each style, from luxury fabrics such as silk crepe, super-soft sheepskin, elaborate jacquard and cashmere. Prices aren’t too scary ( OK, so maybe on the outside edges of self-treating affordable) the silk easy jackets are about £150, the trousers £125, the scrummy Varsity bomber jacket is £295 and it’s available on line from today, but not in store (and only a couple of them at that) until September 6th. There will be 70 styles in the range in total, so it might be worth checking back regularly to see what turns up. It’s online here

Whistles have got it spot on this season. I popped into my local concession the other day and picked up a couple of pieces. I could easily have snapped up half the range, such was the temptation. Everything was really wearable, well cut and flattering.
