See this: Amour

Michael Haneke’s new film, looks at the effects of ageing and dementia on a happily married couple and is probably not one to see if you are feeling down.

Following the decline of an octogenarian musician after a stroke, she is nursed at home by her loving, but increasingly angry and confused husband. The main characters Emmanuelle Riva, 85 and Jean-Louis Trintignant, 81, apparently took the roles because “they both knew that this his situation will concern them in their own lives in the very near future.”

Haneke is known for his brutal and disturbing films and this certainly sounds harrowing, but as the winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival it’s definitely one to see.
