The Fifties Mystique by Jessica Mann

This fab little book tells the 50s as it really was, as opposed to the rose-tinted view we sometimes have when we moan about how terrible things are today and how everything was better ‘back in The Good Old Days….’ In terms  of women’s rights, their everyday lives and what was expected of them, Jessica Mann remembers with clear vision what it was like for her and her family growing up in miserable post war then wildly transformative 60s Britain. Really well written and a fascinating subject, this is an engaging reminder of just how things have changed mostly for the better.
