Gilbert’s Gin Garden for grown up girls

gilbert gin cocktailsWhat is it with gin? We thought it was just us, but everyone’s loving it now.

if you want a very nice place to go and chill with girlfriends while appreciating lovely artisan gins, many made locally, can we suggest you pop along to the Gilbert Scott, found in the St Pancras Hotel where its Gilbert’s Gin Garden, in conjunction with Hendrick’s Gin, has opened for the summer.

We’ve been meaning to write about the lovely Gilbert Scott bar for a while now, we were invited along recently to sample award winning head barman Dav’s very good cocktails (below). The main bar is a really stylish place to sit and drink with friends, as we’ve gotten older we do appreciate a nice environment in which to sit; we need it comfy, not too noisy (we have nan ears) with great drinks and the potential for delicious snacks. The Gilbert Scott bar has all of this. But now it has a curb-side sister garden bar for us to really concentrate on gin.

The list cocktails are delicious and all invented by Dav, featuring herby and floral infusions cooked up in the handily close restaurant kitchen. I told Dav of my gin infusing adventures and he told me he was experimenting with flavouring tonics and cordials to keep flavours light and fresh for the summer.

I also loved his idea of garnishing the cocktail I had with fresh lavender flower stems. I might be over sharing when I tell you how delicious it is to suck the foamy floral cocktail remains from the flowers.

This is entirely my opinion, but sometimes it needs a woman in charge to get what women want in a place to hang out. Chantelle has also co written a cookery book with restaurant owner Marcus Wareing, featuring recipes from the Gilbert Scott restaurant which is just launched. I glimpsed it quickly but it does look good.
