The Venus BushfiresContinuing my obesession with African style, The Venus Bushfires is my current girl crush.

Helen Parker-Jayne Isibor, is a singer, songwriter, composer and musician and is also known as The Venus Bushfires. As well as singing, Helen plays variety of including African drums, percussive instruments and the rare UFO shaped Hang (pronounced hung). The Venus Bushfires music is hauntingly meloncholic and beautiful and she has become known for her become known for her captivating live sets, immersive performance art shows and impromptu sound journeys in unusual spaces.


Citing her influences  as Avant-garde,psychedelic, tribal and meditative arts, she draws inspiration from 70s musical pioneers such as Fela Kuti and Can, creating music and stories that explore the sensual and the spiritual.

The Venus Bushfire 2Her style is refeshingly unique, combining traditional Nigerian inspiration with East London influences. I particularly love her amazing hair styles, which are connected to her love of nature and desire to connect to the earth. She inserts sticks, leaves and feathers into her elaborate up do’s – which are a work of art in themsleves.

THE Venus Bushfires 3The Venus Bushfires is playing at the Ventnor Fringe Festival in August and Hangout in September.
