Spring coats: the lure of a denim duster

alyson walsh tnmaI’ve been hankering after a denim duster coat ever since I stalked a Japanese tourist last year who was wearing the very nicest denim coat I have ever seen. Sadly, despite my best translate-by-hand-waving-and-smiling-a-lot efforts, the language barrier proved too large to overcome and I never found out where it came from. Then during Fashion Week last month, I spotted our friend Alyson from That’s Not My Age (above) wearing a great one from the brand CH.IND, bought aeons ago from the Liberty sale. it seemed a very stylish and timeless option for spring days and I think my wardrobe needs one.

There’s a teeny bit of a micro- trend happening with denim coats, it might have been kick started by the lovely Marni Denim Edition range from last year, or the Miu Miu Denim stone washed duster from the SS13 range, pictured below.

The waist belt is entirely optional, so it is very forgiving, if a little aspirational at this price point.

Meanwhile, let me know if you see any nice ones…

I am a massive fan of duster coats and think the Toast one is very nice indeed. As I am quite short, I’d prefer the denim to be a bit chambray-ish, though, or I might feel slightlyoverwhelmed. Not a duster coat, but I got a lovely cropped workwear-style loose light denim jacket from a Margaret Howell sample sale a few years ago and wear it every Spring.

I rather like the Toast one, but being rather small I suspect I’d just look like a vagrant …
