Frieze Fashion, it’s all about the bright trainer

friezeLast week, due to day job commitments,  I went to Frieze art fair on the last day – Saturday- rather than the first and there was a different vibe in the air. On the first day the place is always full of art dealers, the super rich and hangers on (me) who have dressed up for the occasion. Saturday was a more dressed down affair, still a great place to spot a smartly dressed grown up gal, but wearing highlights from her casual wardrobe. And that wardrobe is full of bright trainers.

We wrote about the emergence of the bright trainer way back here, but who knew it was going to infiltrate to such a degree and become THE way to add a jolt of cheerful hue and modern-ness to our look? Womenfolk, you might want to take note.

frieze_01Aeons ago, if you’d’ve asked me what I thought of black opaque tights with bright trainers, I might have laughed. Not so now. I’m still not wild about them with really short skirts, but I love them with knee length and midi length skirts. Who could resist the cheerfulness of these lovely ones above?

srthColour is key, I love how these tangerine ones from Nike make that more trad-looking canvass shopper look so modern and those may look like gym joggers, but they very definitely are an elevated version. Max Mara have some good ones.

leopardThere’s still lots of metallic around, and I liked it worn with a grey leopard print, as above.

frieze_03Grey opaques! Liking those (above right)….The shoes, jacket and skirts are navy -the lighting was tricky.

matches shoesIt was definitely all about flats, but not  ALL about trainers, the beautiful buckle loafers above, were bought from Matches and the sky blue pleated skirt worn with the oversized camo-print jacket was my favourite outfit of the day.

prada-shoes-01I loved these sandals too, with colour coordinated toenails….it’s been so warm this October that bare legs were everywhere.

grey-moccasinsAnd not quite trainers, but still rather gorgeous, these grey and white high top moccasins were joyous.

So, in case you need a bit of help on this, I’ve tirelessly researched some trainer inspiration for you here. But be warned, I started off thinking, ‘Well, I’ve got enough shoes so I’ll skip this trend’ to ‘I’m having the cherry suede bow Finds ones and the cute little black studded Lock ones and maybe I need those Nike cobalt blue ones for a bit of colour….” The Stella McCartney ones, below right, are a collab with Adidas and look rather fab too Dangerously useful these bright trainers.

LOVE the red ones with the white platform, quite low key luxe. I am mostly excited about the next Liberty Nike collaboration, out soon according to the Liberty website. My debit card is twitching in anticipation. I plan to wear them with knee length/midi dresses at the weekend – like you say, this is a fab look and just so comfy at the weekends. I love being able to walk miles with not a moment’s notice – very freeing!
