The perfect transitional trainer – from adidas via Marni

Now we’ve returned from our Summer hols, in the fashion world, all thoughts naturally turn to winter clothes. As cashmere sweaters and coats start to hit the rails our inboxes are full of Christmas in July emails from PRs wanting to share mince pies while admiring knitted sheepskin gilets.  I know it’s bonkers, but we’ve had this discussion many times before so lets just move on.

Remember Jane told us about the importance of burgundy as an up and coming colour? Well I happened upon a rather fabulous trainer, by adidas, while we were away that looks like the perfect transitional shoe. It helped that on seeing it my shopping pal said ‘ooh, is that a Marni trainer?’ It’s not, but the colours are a divine (and I’m sure unintentional) homage to those wearable offbeat combinations we know and love from the brand.

The colours don’t really look their best in the image, but the burgundy, chocolate, mandarin and custardy yellow are a warming harmony of grown up loveliness. The fabric is that lightweight mesh, so cool enough to wear on even the hottest of days. Also, once you’ve seen this sophisticated colour combo, those ubiquitous neon bright versions look a bit, well, overly enthusiastic.

They are £64.99 here so not cheap, but I think they could be the ideal, hard working transition shoe for late summer and early autumn. They were also jolly comfortable, with nicely spacious toe-space and light weight springy interiors. I can see them becoming a wardrobe staple.
