Victoria Wood: A comedy genius of our time

It was so sad to read of the death of Victoria Wood yesterday. There will be much written of her comedy genius over the next few days – by far better writers than me.

So here’s a couple of my favourite clips of her work, to remind us of why she was one of the best comedy writers of her generation, leading the way for funny women.

Her true Northern humour will always make me laugh out loud. I continue to quote her lines at least once a week. “Can I crash by, I’m diabetic”.

A huge loss to everyone, not least because not only was she a comedy genius but she helped us all laugh at our foibles and hang-ups. And don’t mention a rolled up Woman’s Weekly ……

She will be so sadly missed, her zingy one-liners seemed to have permeated many family in-jokes.

I am just so very sad that she has gone – way too early. I listened to her Desert Island Discs today and I just couldn’t believe that this wonderfully warm and funny person has gone. Such a shame – I will miss her enormously.
