Claire Ptak of Violet Bakery and The Violet Sessions

While you are wrapping your Christmas presents or planning your festive celebrations, can we suggest you listen to the marvellous Violet Sessions, led by journalist Danielle Radojcin and held upstairs at Claire Ptak’s Violet Bakery in East London I talked about last week.

The idea behind the Violet Sessions is to interview interesting and successful women, to talk about their work and start a conversation that is inspiring for the audience.

There have been three sessions so far, all available on Sound cloud here, The most recent one features one of our favourite editor evs, Penny Martin, who is responsible for The Gentlewoman magazine. Penny’s interview is fascinating for all her insights into the fashion and magazine world, including how she got a more forthright interview from Phoebe Philo that anyone (including Pheobe) had intended.

Claire and Danielle have also interviewed Sci-Fi artist Lucy McRae and Lotje Sodderland about their film The Institute of Isolation, listen here. Episode two feature Marine Tangue’s Melt project, listen here, a series of art events involving artists, corporations and institutions, all working together to integrate art into the existing cityscape and make it accessible to all.

Fascinating and absorbing stuff, a nice relief from Radio Four and perfect to listen to while battling with wrapping paper or mince pie pastry.
