Looking after a friends pug over the Easter holidays, made me think that perhaps all mothers of teenagers should have a dog. There is nothing like that unconditional, non judgmental, adoration, that only a dog can give.
Despite the fact that they make you feel guilty in a way you haven’t felt since your children were babies (and this particular dog was a little like a needy, snuffly old man), they are always pleased to see you.
Aah…. remember the days when you turned up at the school gates, to a beaming smile and a little hand slipped trustingly into yours?
