The importance of a good facial with Lisa Franklin

Lisa Franklin is a highly regarded skincare expert and facialist with over 15 years experience in the skincare and makeup industry. Her attention to detail and knowledge combine to provide a luxuriously pampering and technical approach, where she treats clients as individuals not just as skin types.

I was lucky enough to be treated to a facial from Lisa a couple of weeks ago and I can honestly say it was simply the best one I have ever had. It was incredibly relaxing and made my skin feel super clean as well as smooth and gleaming. Even now, weeks later the effect continues and on Lisa’s advice I have invested in a facial scrub which is really helping to continue to improve my skin.

Lisa has been located for over five years in Knightsbridge London and has recently opened a second venue on Harley Street W1 offering treatments using new technology including an INDIBA® Proionic medical system.  She believes in a  non-invasive (no botox) approach and combines INDIBA Deep care to re-establish microcirculation and improve oxygen flow. In addition the process provides the skin layers with more nutrients and increases the synthesis of collagen and elastin, the two main proteins of the skin. This results in a treatment that improves skin laxity, moisture, smoothness and regeneration.

I’m not exactly sure what all of that means but I do know whatever it is she does, it works and it feels good and quite frankly that’s all you need to know……

Lisa tell us a bit about yourself, your work and your skincare philosophy?

Since an early age, I have been passionate about skincare and makeup and always followed a strict skincare regime. I have always enjoyed experimenting with methods and products to gain a better understanding of what worked for my skin. I began my career in beauty by freelancing as a makeup artist and working as a practitioner at the Chewton Glen Spa. It was here I met the renowned facialist Linda Meredith, eventually working at her Clinic in Knightsbridge for over 5 years prior to starting my own business. My philosophy is very much about treating clients individually rather than generically into a skin type.

How do your facials differ from other more formulaic treatments?

Each treatment with the client is tailored specifically to their needs at that time. My product choices are not limited to one specific brand. The treatments are all non-invasive using the latest technology to deliver the nutrients to the deepest layers of the skin. This differs from the approach of categorising a client’s skin and following a chart of products formulated for their skin type. Often the products are from one product house only.

How often should we be having facials and what should we be doing in between to maintain our skin.

Regular non-invasive facials, like our signature treatment achieves instant results without downtime and ideally should be undertaken a minimum once a month.

Between facials maintaining a regular skincare regime is of the utmost importance for radiant healthy skin.

Make sure you cleanse every evening with a clean facial sponge or cloth. Regular exfoliation is a necessary part of your skincare regime as it removes dead skin cells and promotes the regeneration of the epidermis layer. I recommend a Gommage as a highly effective exfoliator. After moisturising in the morning always use a facial Primer to lock in the nutrients, primers act as a perfect barrier against skin irritants and oxidants whilst creating a perfect canvas for makeup application.

What’s the single most important tip for ageing skin?

Use products and procedures, which stimulate cell regeneration.  Exfoliation either at the salon or at home will remove dead skin cells, smooth the texture of the skin, increase collagen production and stimulate cell turnover which slows down as we age. Always use a facial primer to act as a barrier before applying makeup.

You are launching your own hero product soon, tell us a bit about that?

As a skincare specialist I believe makeup should be an integral part of any skincare regime. After years of testing numerous products and brands and not finding the right products on the market that bridged the gap between skin preparation and makeup I decided to formulate and produce my own.

The Lisa Franklin London range will be a simple system that takes skin from cleansing through to makeup in five steps.

The Hero product of the range is the Pro-effect Luminescent Base. This is the one product that links the worlds of skincare and makeup. This light translucent gel instantly transforms the skin creating a youthful, radiant smooth surface on which to apply foundation. Packed with innovative ingredients such as diamonds which transform UV light into radiant light whilst reducing redness and skin resurfacing molecules that fill in fine lines and wrinkles.
