Hats Off is a feature length documentary profiling 93 year old Mimi Weddell. Named by New York magazine at age 90 as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People in New York,” Her full-time acting career only began at age 65, when her husband died.
She has appeared in ads for Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Juicy Couture, and Nike. Photo spreads for Vanity Fair and Vogue. TV series including Sex and the City and Law and Order and in feature films such as Across the Universe, Hitch, and The Purple Rose of Cairo.
Shot over 10 years the film follows Mimi, a bohemian free spirit forced to share her east side Manhattan apartment with her two more traditional grown up children and a grandchild. Mimi has a ‘can-do’ attitude which mocks the tradtitional image of old age and her gruelling daily routine includes gymnastics and dance work outs, which would leave even the most energetic 30 year old feeling worn out.
An examination of family relationships, love, and ultimately the dreams which drive us, Hats Off is both entertaining and inspiring.
