More and more fashion brands are using film as a way to promote their collections, meaning a new breed of talented film makers is emerging who mix traditional techniques with technology to create some really interesting work.
Kenzo is going from strength to strength under the direction of Opening ceremony design duo Humberto Leon and Carol Lim and they recently enlisted the help of illustrator and art director Mat Maitland to create the adverts and viral video for the new Kenzo resort collection. Maitland was previously known for his album covers for bands such as Mark Ronson, Goldfrapp, Basement Jaxx and even Michael Jackson.
I also love the work of Quentin Jones a London-based illustrator, who is a Cambridge philosophy graduate and one of fashion’s brightest young filmmakers. Her surreal photo-montaged animation mixes traditional hand drawn techniques with digital effects. She has also worked with Kenzo, as well as Chanel and Victoria Beckham.
Quentin often features herself in her films and as well as being talented and super clever, she’s stunning looking. I recently saw her talk at a conference and she is also engaging and very likable – honestly some people just have it all!
