Party Potential: Festive Dressing Begins

It’s impossible to ignore now, the festive season is here, like it or not. I seem to have an unusually high number of event invitations already this year, something that never normally happens, is everyone thinking of partying their way to oblivion as we all stare into the Brexit abyss? Delightful though this is, inside my heart groans at the thought of having to dress up. So I’m on the look out for an easy to wear, hard working dress that will see me through.

While whizzing through Selfridges this week I found myself in the Me + Em corner (it sometimes happens). I love the way this brand looks grown up but in a modern, slouchy, don’t-really-care way. There’s a crimson collection on the rails which caught my eye and nothing says Christmas more than red, the colour alone announces you’re in a festive mood. There’s a lovely pair of immensely glamorous, wide leg evening trousers in thick, double sided crimson satin crepe, which you could match with one of those lovely shirts from Kitri I mentioned last week.

But my heart was lost to the evening shirt dress, with its sporty satin sleeve stripe and zip front detail. Team it with some chic trainers (perhaps something a tad more glam than these white ones) and you’re good to go. It’s also machine washable (just writing this makes me feel like my mum, circa 1970 talking about anything bought from M&S).

If you want a bit more leopard print, then Boden has this good festive dress that I predict will be the go-to number for many this festive season (it’ll be everywhere in Barnes). I always like the Boden partywear offer, which this year is all Meghan-Markel-meets-The-Vampire’s-Wife. The velvet is always good value,  I checked in to see if it was still doing the velvet trouser suit in fun colours, but this year it comes in a bird-patterned printed velvet.  So far, the red dress wins. I’ll keep you posted if I find anything better.
