Merry Christmas

It’s been a good year for Amanda and I, as we have taken our respective projects away from The Women Room to the next level.

Amanda has worked hard to make We Wear Perfume a respected source of inspiration and knowledge in the fragrance world and I have been busier than ever launching Unique Style Platform in the US, increasing out number of clients here in the uk and co-creating the Out of Fashion podcast.  And while we still care passionately about The Women’s Room and our wonderful readers, we both find we don’t have as much time as we would like to be able to focus on it.

We feel proud of how we have been at the forefront of the movement to highlight the need for more visibility of older women in fashion, beauty and life in general and like to think we were among the first to write about this ongoing subject. Things have changed for the better since we started TWR all those years ago, with the beauty industry eliminating the negative term anti ageing and more and more conversations about positive ageing becoming front of mind for brands and the media. We still have some way to go, but many of us feel more empowered and confident about our age than ever before. After all age is a privilege that sadly some people don’t get to enjoy.

Blogging is changing as some bloggers become almost as mainstream as the media we strived to escape and Instagram has become the way for brands work with influencers with huge numbers to engage with consumers.

We have never been about making money and have been more interested about writing about what we love and building a community, but when your job that makes you money becomes overwhelming, its hard to find the time and the energy to continue doing something for nothing.

So we are going to take a break for a while – give ourselves some time to re-think how, what and if, we want to continue. Thank you for reading, commenting and being there for us – because without all of you we wouldn’t have continued for so long.

We hope to be back at some point in 2019, but for now have a very Merry Christmas, a restful holiday and a great New Year.

Lots of love

Amanda and Jane xxx

Happy Christmas Jane and Amanda and thanks for all the wonderful, thought-provoking posts throughout 2018. I am sure I am not alone in being a bit bereft that you won’t be posting so regularly ! Here’s to a happy healthy successful 2019 for everyone in the Women’s Room sphere ! x

Dear Amanda & Jane, I will miss TWR and hope your break is just that, not an end but a chance for you two to rest and rethink what direction you want the blog to take amidst your busy lives. I have always enjoyed reading about who and what inspires you in the fashion world. We’re all getting older, but that doesn’t mean we are losing our mojo. Last night I watched ‘Something’s Got to Give’ with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. Diane looks as amazing and chic as an older single woman as she did a young wife in the ‘Godfather’. I digress. – in this world of noise, I have never found your blog noisy. More like the sane voice in the room. Good luck to you both, Elena

I hope you will be back in 2019, but only if it’s right for you both. You’ve done a terrific job, always informative and entertaining! Happy New Year to you both xx

I’ve followed from the early days and have been missing TWR recently, but it has been great to watch you and your other projects thrive. Although as you say, the ‘older women’ space is more populated than it was, to me TWR remains my favourite; the original and best by a mile.
Thank you both and wishing you a year of health, happiness and good fortune

  • This is such a great blog. Hope to see more from you in the future.

I do hope you will consider restarting the Women’s Room blog. I miss it so much! There’s nothing that compares to your intelligent approach to style, beauty and lifestyle. If it were a magazine, I would subscribe to it! Please come back!

Hello and Happy Christmas 2019. I thought I would check in to see if you had added any blog posts without me noticing but sadly not. The Women’s Room has provided intelligent commentary on so many interesting issues that I enjoy re-reading it and of course your Instagram posts and love the podcasts. All the best to you both for the next decade.

We take pride in Build Now GG pioneering the conversation around visibility for older women in fashion and beauty. While progress has been made, there’s still more to do. Age is a privilege worth celebrating.
