Columbia Road in London's East End is one of our favourite haunts on a Sunday morning, but rarely do we venture there on a weekeday. If you fancy an alternative shopping experience to the heaving nightmare that is shopping in the West End, take a trip down there next Wednesday night.
Originally built as a Victorian shopping Arcade it retains a delightful Dickensian feel with cobbled streets and Victorian Street lamps and is the perfect setting to create a wonderful Christmas atmosphere.
The 60 independant shops selling handmade, vintage and new, offer not only totally unique product, but a taste of what shopping should be like. Friendly personal service, a chance to meet the people who actually make the product and a relaxed yet uplifting atmosphere. There are also numerous great cafes, restuarants and bars in the area to fall into when you have shopped till you drop.
