Rossana Orlandi is the owner of one of the most amazing shops we have ever visited (and believe me, between us, we have probably visited every major shop in the world worth knowing about) I was beside myself when I visited last week and couldn't believe I had been to Milan several times before and never ever been there.
Set in an old factory Spazio Rossana Orlandi is part gallery space, part shop set in the Magenta district, and is the ultimate in lifestyle retail. The beautiful court yard is filled with reclaimed and found items and contains an outdoor cafe run by older ladies, serving delicious mini pastries and coffee. The rest of the ground floor showcases new work and exhibitions by established and new designers, makers and artists.
The first floor is dedicated to retail (again run by older ladies) and contains some of the most beautiful and unique homeware, I have seen in while. I bought some ridiculously expensive coloured toilet rolls and am now on a mission to source them in the UK (any ideas anyone?).
As we were leaving we spotted Rossana Orlandi floating around the courtyard, a vision in cream. wearing her trademark huge glasses. She looked every inch the style icon and was charming when we asked to take her picture.
Rossana also has a clothing shop and restuarant, Pane e Acqua , right next door. If you are in Milan in the near future, take a look, but be warned, you may never want to leave.
