Sainsbury’s fabulous knives and shears

So, Sainsbury’s. Not perhaps the first name that comes to mind when considering brilliant kitchen knives. We thought that too, until we saw these fabulous examples of knives and shears from the Cooks Collection at the Sainsbury’s Christmas press day last week. Sainsbury’s is really spending time developing its kitchen and home range, anyone who lives near one of the mega stores will know that the brand seems to have John Lewis in its sights, I was really impressed with the selection and quality of the product when I visited the Crayford branch earlier this year.

The Riveted Chef’s Knife at £10.50 is designed so nothing sticks to the blade when you slice things (it’s the slight wave in the metal) and it remains very sharp for a long time. It is a weighty size but easy to use and we loved it. But perhaps the star of the evening was the pair of scarily efficient Kitchen Shears £12.00, which made a light job at cutting through slabs of parsnip, if they had been for sale on the evening Jane and I would have snapped up the whole stock. These would make ideal presents for anyone setting up home/moving to college or indeed for mates at Christmas.

Sadly the range of knives is only available from certain stores and not at all on line (something to do with laws on selling knives, although I see Lakeland and Divertimenti manage this somehow), although many nice kitchen bits are available on the website.

These are the stores the knives are available from…Locksbottom, Wandsworth, Walthamstow, Whitechapel, Hendon, Purley Way, Ilford, Harringay, Finchley Rd, Burpham, Cobham, Merton, St Clares, Kiln Lane, North Cheam, Hayes, Sydenham, Beckton and Crayford.

The shears are for sale now, the riveted knife is part of the new range to be launched shortly.

It was the slicing through the parsnip that sold it to us! Will def be buying both of these.

Yes, why is it that Lakeland and Divertimenti can sell knives and Sainsburys can’t? I don’t go near any of the London-based Sainsburys that sell this but I want this knife!!!!
