Middleagedmum.com: things I like about summer

Sunrise over East London from my bedroom window

We are coming towards the end of the school summer holidays and after a family break, everyone is off doing their own thing, either with friends or work, and the dog and I are left at home. Which is fine, as it gives me a little bit of a break from the relentless holiday washing (MAD has been so relaxed he seems to have forgotten his washing obsession!) and to reflect on the things I like about summer.

I particularly love London in the summer, when everyone has gone away and our local streets are virtually deserted. Central London is quiet too, apart from the odd pack of Italian teenage tourists. Bliss.

I also love reading in the back garden, despite the fact its no more than a yard and has no view – it’s still outside and if the suns shining, there’s nowhere finer.

It’s great to get away to somewhere new, or even somewhere you’ve been many times. I’m glad to say the teens are getting the travel bug and have a real sense of adventure, long may it continue.

There’s nothing better than spending time with your family. Luckily for us for us, some of ours live on the beautiful Lake Maggiore.

Where there is lots of delicious ice cream!

But you can’t beat British seaside fish and chips.

Or having the time to arrange things neatly in rows – needless to say I didn’t do this!

Enjoy the rest of your summer, whatever you’re doing.

We miss you already so much and can’t wait for the next round. Hopefully in London.
