Alternative Christmas shopping: Christmas Fairs

This year M.A.D and I are attempting to buy all our Christmas presents locally. Hackney is home to more artists than anywhere in Europe and has so many unique and interesting shops and markets popping up all the time, it seems mad not to support our local community and have some fun discovering them as well.

The first of many interesting (and local – luckily for us) Christmas Fairs is coming up on the 26th of November (as is the Tweed Run which we will be visiting too) at The Book Club on Leonard Street EC2. The Merry Magpie Christmas Boutique is a collaboration between Patchwork Harmony & Y.E.S! London, and promises a fantastic selection of female run businesses selling a wide range of gifts, vintage homewares & clothes, baked goods & handmade items. They will be rasing money for  Dress for Success London, so the £1 entrance fee and 10% of all sales will go to the charity.

Patchwork Harmony is a lovely interiors and vintage blog written by photo editor Caroline Taylor, who also has an online shop and has recently launched 91 Magazine, an online craft and vintage ezine.

last years Craftacular

Another of our favourite Fairs is Craftacular, on the 27th of November at York Hall in Bethnal Green. Craft magazine BUST, hosts this unique sale of quirky craft , jewellery, interiors, cards, clothing and even taxidermy. Rob Ryan will be selling wrapping paper, there will be craft workshops and demos from the likes of Tatty Devine and the Make Lounge will be holding a raffle.
