Wearing winter white: Hammersmith Vintage fair

Last Sunday at Hammersmith Vintage fair there was an air of ‘returning to school’ (in a good way) about the place, as there hadn’t been a fair since the beginning of the summer. It was gloriously sunny outside and it felt too early to be wearing darker winter colours but there was a nip in the morning air which made you think twice about shoe-string straps and lightweight cotton.

The nicest looks on the day came from the following women, who opted for head-to-toe winter white (antique white? vintage white?) a warmer version of summer’s optic-white that looked brilliant when combined with natural leather, brown skin and a tiny shot of highlight brights.

Above is stall holder Caroline Turner from Frillseekers Vintage who had a relaxed easy vibe going on with her soft linen shirt and skirt under a slouchy cardi jacket. Her woven leather lace ups gave her a boyish charm and the short coral socks were the shot of colour that made the whole look sing. The Pre-Raphs would have approved.

A fabulous outfit here from a shopper who wanted me to chop her head off as she didn’t like her photo being taken, she looked amazing but no amount of persuading would shake her. So we must concentrate on her elegant combination of Middle Eastern style tunic dress in thick white cotton, Ally Capellino leather bag in lipstick red and Tracey Neuls shoes. She also has a floral trimmed white sunhat rolled up in her hand that added a delicate shot of print, the hat was Italian and bought from Browns ‘A while ago”. My favourite look of the day.

Anyone who goes to the fair regularly will  know Su Mason from Blue Linen’s elegant tailored style, she’s often in vintage menswear. this week she was wearing antique-white linen from head to toe, including a man’s dress waistcoat which brought the whole look together. She had added a black and white silk neck tie and black leather money bag to add interest.

Finally I couldn’t resist this inspiring shot of stripes and florals worn together…with on trend moccasins too! perfect. I love the heavy embroidered floral coat, I can feel a vintage shopping mission coming on….
