Well you don’t actually need to know anything about the Met Ball as I’m sure you have more interesting/important things to think about today. But just in case you happen to be going to a red carpet event in the next couple of weeks – ok a wedding – here are five things you might want to think about when dressing up for a special occasion.
Over 40’s keep it simple
Anna Wintour (64) and Sarah Jessica Parker (49) appeared to be the only people over 40 at the event and they both managed to pull off old school glamour, in Chanel and Oscar De La Renta respectively. Donatella Versace (59) not so much – more of her later.
Couples Rock
Victoria & David, Blake & Ryan, Kim & Kayne, Beyonce & Jay – the ultimate accessory is a handsome man in a simple suit.
Trousers are a “thing”
If Amber and Cara think it’s ok to wear trousers to a ball, then it is – no discussion!
You can be too rich and too thin
We really try to be positive and kind on this blog – but there is a limit. Why Donatella, why?
Colour, old school glamour and Top Shop
Reece Witherspoon in a pink Stella McCartney dress was my absolute favourite look of the night. Stunning on every level. While Jourdan Dunn and Toni Garrn, wore bespoke Top shop dresses (as did Kendall Jenner, Chanel Iman and Zoë Kravitz) and proved that red carpet style doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
Reece was resplendent, I totally agree!
My absolute favourite though, was Naomi Watts in Givenchy. So beautiful.
Donatella…shakes head sadly. At least she’s laid off the tanning bed. SJP also makes me sad. Becks looks wonderful – such a sweet smile.
Totes agree! Love Stella’s top (behind Cara) and her dress for Reece. It’s inspiring that SJP has not allowed age to diminish her fashion bravura. I’ll keep it zipped on Donatella.
