Hear this: Stay Gold, First Aid Kit

One of the things I love about having teenagers around is swapping favourite new music. Teen son (who from now on will be known as TSS, – twenty something son) and I have have very similar taste – apart from rap – and are constantly playing each other new tunes.

One of my recent favourites (and now his) has been First Aid Kit, two sisters Klara and Johanna Soderberg from Enskede, a suburb of Stockholm – who are only 20 and 21 but their musical influences are set firmly in the past.

“At home, we heard a lot of Patti Smith and the Velvet Underground. We always sang. We drove our parents crazy, singing and trying to sound like Christina Aguilera,” said Klara.

I love their melodic harmonies and unique blend of country influences and Scandi cool. I saw them play the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday night where their un-amplified performances of their song Ghost Town had the whole audience captive.

Their latest album Stay Gold is on a loop in our house and if you haven’t heard them, take a listen to their latest album Stay Gold.

Your earlier post introduced me to FAK and I immediately bought Wolf. I just bought Stay Gold today and played it during my afternoon run. Never been interedted in country before but love them – so talented.

I loved this and sent a link to my teenage daughter – who told me she’d been playing it for weeks on Spotify…
