The weather here in London has moved from the beautifully warm autumn we have been experiencing to properly chilly. Astonishingly, I only wore warm socks for the first time last week (November!) and I still haven’t worn my winter coat. But temperatures have dropped and I can no longer not add a warm layer of something woolly to keep me warm while I sit here typing.
Regular readers will know that I battle with the dreaded moths here at Barnes Towers, despite military like avoidance strategies (more on this next week, I’ll just give you a one word teaser…microwaves) so cashmere is out. I’m fed up with investing money in beautifully soft sweaters only for them to get munched in the most annoyingly obvious of places.
Instead I’ve moved to lovely soft alpaca, and I’m LOVING my new Gudrun Sjödén alpaca sweater, which is turning into the very best snuggly sweater for chilly everyday wear. I have one in black, although I suspect I should have got the red for its cheerfully upbeat vibe, whatever. It is generously enough shaped to be easy to wear without swamping me and it’s slightly shorter at the front than the back, so I can shove my hands in my jeans pockets without too much bunching up of knitwear. Perfect.
The diamond rhombus stitch pattern adds subtle interest and I love the way the cuffs and neck just roll into a simple finish. As with all Gudrun Sjödén clothes, the sizes go up to 20/22 -XL, I have the medium and it’s very generous. Buy here at £145
