Fashion goes to the dogs!

Top Shop Unique Dalmatian range

Ok, so I know I’m a dog bore, but quite frankly I don’t care, as there is no love like a dogs love, and the world would be a much nicer place if people were more like dogs. They are always pleased to see you, never in a bad mood and require nothing more than exercise, food and love!

I like to think I am  ‘in the know’ when it comes to being at the forefront of new trends (I know it’s shallow but bear with me), so when I got a dog – for all the right reasons I might add – little did I think within a matter of months they would be inspiring a whole new trend!

Top Shop dog jumpers

It all started when Top Shop Unique showed a collection inspired by 101 Dalmatians for A/W11/12. More than a little influenced by Cruella DeVil, the black and white canine collection heralded a polka dot revival and dog motif jumpers became a hot new item.

The German Shepherd cashmere knit by Balenciaga has been the sweater of choice for fashionistas attending the recent S/S catwalk shows and Top Shop have continued to expand their canine inspired knitwear range.

We are not sure this look is for us however, as there is a danger of looking a little Gyles Brandreth in TV AM/ strange dog lady who knits her own jumpers out of dog hair, and anyway the Balenciaga sweater costs almost as much as a family holiday.

But I can honestly recommend owning a dog, which leads me neatly onto this handsome fella who is looking for a home. Henry was found wandering the streets in Hackney after the summer riots. He is gorgeous and would make a loyal and loving pet. Read his story here. Go on you know you want too – you could even have a jumper knitted with his face on it!

  • Cath Kidson has a dog thing going on too. A Motif jumper in cashmere, but it smacks too much of Holiday Sweaters for me. Henry is gorgeous I hope he finds a happy home soon. GG

I quite like the Cath Kidston dog range – but know what you mean – all a bit Val Doonican!!
