The Great British Bake Off has much to answer for, not least a this bakery-inspired limited edition fragrance collection from Jo Malone London, just launching for spring. Sugar & Spice consists of five scents, Redcurrant & Cream, Ginger Biscuit, Lemon Tart, Elderflower & Gooseberry and my favourite, the Jaffa-cake-smelling Bitter Orange & Chocolate. Now, fessing up here, I wasn’t that keen on these when I smelt them at the press launch, but when I came home, the house was full of gorgeous girlfriends of my various sons (average age 18) so I tried them out on them and they LOVED them with a passion. Fights broke out over the samples…..
The fragrances are seductively sweet, fruity, spicy and very pretty, the launch image above is by Tim Walker and sums up the vibe just perfectly. They would make a great entry-point fragrance for a first perfume or for someone who has a sweet -perfume fixation and they are a million times better than one of those celebrity scents pushed at teens. Available soon (March) from the Jo Malone site here
Much more my cup of tea (sorry) is the Earl Grey & Cucumber fragrance also launching this spring. You know that smell when you open up a box of earl grey tea and a bergamot-y waft comes up at you? Well imagine that mixed with a teeny hint of cucumber and turn it into a scent, and you’ve got this new one. I love it, it’s a possible rival to take over from Blackberry & Bay.

I like the Lemon and the recurrent, but the Orange and Chocolate just doent do it for me – like wearing a Terry’s chocolate Orange!! J
