A Journey Through London Subculture: 1980s, is a major new exhibition at the Old Selfridges hotel and is definatley one to see if you were a clubber in the 80’s.
Looking at the similarities between the post-punk era and the present day, it features memorabilia and assemblages from 56 creative influencers from the 80’s, through to the present day, including Gilbert & George, John Maybury, House of Beauty & Culture, Tom Dixon, Jeffrey Hinton, Bodymap, Alexander McQueen, Julie Verhoeven, Giles Deacon, Charlie Porter, Lucky PDF, Vogue Fabrics Nightclub, Sibling, J W Anderson, Bethan Laura Wood and Louise Gray
Situated on the huge industrial first floor of The Old Selfridges Hotel, directly above the Selfridges Food Hall it’s a fascinating exhibitions that takes you on an underground journey through time, covering art, design, craft, fashion, film, architecture, dance, club culture, restaurants and bars and celebrates the DIY attitude and creativity that existed back in the day and continues today.
