Middle age is the new vampire, as a whole host of films featuring *whispers* older people have hit our screens recently.
Enough Said features the late James Gandolfini (I have been working my way through the Sopranos for the last two months and I LOVE Tony Sporano) and is so on my list of must sees.
And if you haven’t yet seen Philomena with the wonderful Judi Dench and Steve Coogan (who is excellent as Martin Sixsmith), do, it’s very good and not as depressing as it sounds – in fact it’s positively up lifting despite the subject matter.
I have also heard great things about Chilean film Gloria which won actress Paulina García the best actress award at Berlin and has been described as “gloriously strange and slippery, impossible to pin down, funny, uplifting, moving and deeply disquieting”.
It’s on now at selected cinemas and doesn’t last long, so see it soon, or wait for it on DVD.
I loved Enough Said – and Tony Soprano. Philomena is excellent too. Will add Gloria to my must-see list.
