I’ve been hankering after a denim duster coat ever since I stalked a Japanese tourist last year who was wearing the very nicest denim coat I have ever seen. Sadly, despite my best translate-by-hand-waving-and-smiling-a-lot efforts, the language barrier proved too large to overcome and I never found out where it came from. Then during Fashion Week last month, I spotted our friend Alyson from That’s Not My Age (above) wearing a great one from the brand CH.IND, bought aeons ago from the Liberty sale. it seemed a very stylish and timeless option for spring days and I think my wardrobe needs one.
There’s a teeny bit of a micro- trend happening with denim coats, it might have been kick started by the lovely Marni Denim Edition range from last year, or the Miu Miu Denim stone washed duster from the SS13 range, pictured below.
This coming autumn, Stella McCartney has a covetable denim trench for us to admire, from a distance obviously, it’ll be a price.
And for those who have a hankering, Isabel Marant Étoile has a super-wearable version, very simply cut with gently fraying edges, in her SS13 range, you can buy it from Matches at £360. The waist belt is entirely optional, so it is very forgiving, if a little aspirational at this price point.
Luckily, our friends at Toast have a better priced version (£195, here) that comes very close to what I’m looking for; loosely cut, with nice kimono-inspired sleeves to pop easily over sweaters, simple in style and easy to bling-up with big floral brooches should the desire be there.
I couldn’t find any reasonably priced high street examples, but I suspect that before long there will be some around, I say this confidently because next autumn’s J Crew collection feature’s is this sleek one below and as we all know, where J Crew treads, others will follow. Meanwhile, let me know if you see any nice ones…
