Every time I go on holiday to Europe I am inspired by the way the older women dress, whether it’s the super chic Parisian women, uber tanned bikini wearing Spanish women or the Italian Nonnas sweeping their front steps in small towns and villages.
Older European women know how to dress for hot weather and don’t try to add too many layers. A day dress and maybe the addition of an apron or housecoat means they are cool and comfortable. They add interest through pattern mixing, embroidery details and delicate piping.
This year on holiday, I went in search of a floral old lady dress (much to my children’s surprise – you’d think they’d know me by now) but somehow they just don’t work on a Scot. So I decided to stick to basic black – without the mourning bit!
It seems I’m not the only one inspired by this version of cool (literally) as The Sartorialist recently Instagrammed some pictures of Italian Nonnas from a trip to Italy.
They look happy, proud ,content and wear those dresses well!
