At last it feels like Autumn may be on its way and its time to buy some winter clothes. Up until now I have managed to get away with bare legs and a cardi, but this week my thoughts have turned to knitwear and winter coats. Retailers please take note – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – no-one wants to buy winter coats in August!
We all have too many coats, that’s a given, but sometimes a new shape/fabric/colour comes along that makes us throw all sensible thoughts (ie, I don’t need another new coat) out of the window and this season it’s all about the teddy bear coat!
Faux fur is back big time and unlike last seasons pink coat this one has some longevity – note to self, always buy coats that you will still like after one season!
Some of my favourite teddy bear coats are from Top Shop and if you can bear to shop in there (personally I love it) you will find that these bad boys are ageless and almost timeless and will suit more or less anyone – now we just need them to realise that most women in the UK are not actually a size 8 and we will be laughing (why Top Shop why?). My favourite is the teddy coat above left.

For a slightly better quality with prices to match, head over to Net A Porter and check out Shrimps which is the label that started the faux fur craze. Any self respecting fashionista will be wearing a Shrimps coat this season as they are fab, but for me a little over priced. If however I was going to splash out I would go for the gorgeous vintage style number from Sonia Rykiel.
M&S are also doing a pretty good selection, if you can bear to trawl through their hideously styled website (sort it out guys) and my favourites are from the Twiggy range, Per Una and Collection.
By far the nicest fur on the high street is from Whistles, both for styling and quality. The Kumiko Faux fur is just gorgeous (the lilac is sold out) and I would go for the black. The textured fur in grey feels super luxe and could be dressed down with jeans and boots, or popped over a LBD for a fancy night out.
Stay warm and have a lovely weekend.
