Women of the World returns to the Southbank Centre to mark International Women’s Day on Sunday 8th March. In its fifth year the festival includes a programme of gigs and musical performances created and performed by women Taking place across seven days, the festival will feature over 300 speakers and performers appearing at over 200 events.

Highlights include Salma Hayek Pinault presenting the UK premiere of her animation The Prophet, Singers Rebecca Ferguson and Ella Eyre will perform and speakers include Annie Lennox, Lauren Laverne, Caitlin Moran, Sarah Brown, Juliet Stevenson, Eve Ensler, Shami Chakrabarti, Kate Mosse and Gemma Cairney.

wow2015-poster_0Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, will make the economic case for gender equality across the globe with the ONE Campaign in a live video linkup

Throughout the festival all female choirs will pop-up across the site – NME rated vocal innovators Gaggle, Deep Throat Choir sing Motown classics, gospel group The Reapers Choir, a cappella duo Porter and pop music protagonists Lips will sing everything from folk songs to dubstep.

The WOW flagship event, Mirth Control will fuse comedy and music and is hosted by Sandi Toksvig and stars Sarah Millican, Sharon D. Clarke, soprano Angel Blue, Southbank Centre’s vocal initiative Voicelab and an all-female orchestra.
