I have been a long time supporter of Texprint, the charity set up in 1972 to support textile design graduates get a start in the industry. Highly regarded as a unique incubator of textile design talent and innovative design, every year 24 designers are mentored and showcased at several international industry events, providing a vital link between college and the next steps in their careers.
Last year I was privileged to be asked to curate a selection of the short listed graduates in collaboration with Surface View. Choosing from an impressive selection of work to create an interiors and soft furnishing range, we decided to move away from the minimal, understated mood of previous seasons and take a ‘pile it all on’ approach to decoration. Combining richly embellished surfaces with eclectic colour combinations, the Maximalist collection is all about clashing patterns and lots of texture.
