Last week saw fashions great and good make their way to New York, to view what we will be wearing in Spring/Summer 2011. Actually, we will probably be wearing slightly inferior High St versions of what was shown on the catwalk, but we can but dream!
One of the key themes to come through in many of the collections was a major 70's revival. The Marc Jacobs show was very 'Ali McGraw meets Halston in Studio 54', and will certainly be much loved and copied by the High St. As we were at school in the 70's and have hideous memories of midi skirts and clumpy wooden platform (if our mums allowed us) we think we will leave that look to our daughters!
The collections we loved, featured beautiful fabrics, easy to wear styling, in great colour palettes. In fact it was the clever use of colour and print that defined many of our favourite ranges. For us it was all about beautiful, simply styled clothes, with clever details. Now that we are in our 40's, we don't want anything obviously themed or over designed.
Spring/Summer seems a long way off we know, but we are already on the look out for a softly pleated skirt, to work the Joan Holloway in Mad Men look (but in a flattering way) and will definitely be adding some of the gorgeous toffee, caramel and orange tones to our wardrobes.
