Style icon: Catherine Baba

Catherine Baba is an Australian stylist and fashion consultant living in Paris, who has worked for Chanel, Givenchy, Balmain, Ungaro, Dazed, Vogue and Vanity Fair. Baba is renowned for her retro glamour and personal style and is regularly seen riding her bike round Paris wearing very high heels.

Her MySpace page claims she’s 75, but no-one knows how old she really is, though she has said she wished she was born 1936.

A lover of 30’s styling, vintage YSL, over size glasses and turbans, she only ever wears vintage fur – “Because I am against the suffering of animals, I wear only vintage fur and I think that a sable would be delighted to know that it is worn by beautiful people in sumptuous décors.”

Baba has recently collaborated with Parisian jewellery company Maison Gripoix. Established in 1868, they are most famous for their early work with Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and Schiaparelli.

The 12 piece collection is inspired by Catherien’s own extensive vintage collection, the Romantic and Decadent periods, and the work of Yeats, Oscar Wilde, Lord Byron, and Aubrey Beardsley. Peacocks, phoenixes and dragons are used as decoration and embellishment throughout the range.
