Specsavers has teamed up with John Rocha to produce a range of 13 glass styles that launch this week on line and in Specsaver stores.
I love John Rocha and his recent AW13 show made me – a die-hard neutrals and black wearer-seriously consider buying pink. The glasses are good, particularly the printed acetate ones, which come in lovely blues, berry and dark pink shades with great details on the arms, just enough to make them interesting but not overpowering.
I got to ask John what he thought we should think about when picking a shape or colour for glasses, he said ‘Make sure they are comfortable, that’s key, otherwise you will never like them, also look at yourself in the mirror and think,, do I feel good? Don’t get influenced by trends and what is supposed to be ‘hot right now’, pick a pair that makes you feel better”. Wise words indeed and John pointed out that his new range falls under the ‘buy one get on free’ offer that Specsavers run, so you could experiment with your second pair with something a bit more daring (they are £125 a pair). Also, if you use reading glasses, having a ‘two for one’ helps when you lose a pair.
Since I had him all to myself for a few moments in his beautiful Dover Street store full of SS13 clothes, I asked John if he had any tips for dressing well as we got older. “I’m lucky to have been married to a beautiful woman for 30 years,” he said, “who constantly reminds me what slightly older women want and need. She’s always saying she wants dresses with longer sleeves and trousers she can sit down in, she’s good at giving me tips!’ We did think maybe Mrs Rocha had a hand in his collections…
‘Also it’s important not to follow trends if they don’t work for you,” John continued,”be accepting of your shape. I’ve been saying it for years but designers shouldn’t dictate to customers, they are there to offer a service to make them look and feel good, in fact I think the trend of ‘trends’ is really unfashionable.” He may feel like this but there’s no doubt his pink moment is influencing current trend.
I loved John’s jade ring, below, a 30th anniversary present from his wife.
And this is his own John Rocha Claddagh ring which I am quietly lusting after…
Here are my favourite of the glasses designs, including the JR11, which has a lovely cream acetate lining to the inside of the frames, below.
The JR06 in a gorgeous blue with nice arm details, below
and the JR07 in berry
Available at Specsavers and online
Love his rings! I’ve got the claddagh one, as I’m a bop it obsessed with them, do you remember Gabriel Brynes one in Millers Crossing? (Loved it) Love the jade ring here, I have ring envy. X
