This a glorious book, a total treat for anyone who cycles or who dreams of packing up a picnic lunch and heading out into the countryside for an adventure. It details 36 bike rides around Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Herts, Beds and Bucks, Essex and Suffolk and the Thames Valley and London, including bike shops and pit-stop pubs and restaurants along the way.
I looked at the four London ones and wanted to jump on my bike immediately and head off. Most of the rides take a day to do (around 30 miles) but some are shorter and you could easily tweak the routes, there’s a map to download for each ride.
Even if you don’t do any cycling, the book is pretty enough to just look at and dream of riding off, as the images are good and Jack Thurston gives a nicely rambling story of each route. It would be an ideal present for a cycling enthusiast or someone who fancies getting out and about more. Buy here
