Ever since I saw Solange’s video for Losing You, I have had a huge girl crush on both her music and her style. I love the way she mixes print and colour and has her own unique style – or a great stylist. Either way, I can’t get enough of her look!
She also does amazing things with her hair and loves a red lip and a turban.
I have been feeling for African prints for a while now and toying with the idea of buying some fabric from Ridley Road market and getting some capri pants and a shell top made – but we all know thats not going to happen!!
So I went on a search (online – remember I hate shopping) and found the perfect range by former model turned designer, Stella Jean.
Half-Haitian, half-Italian, her Creole roots are a big influence and she blends traditional African prints with a thoroughly modern aesthetic.
Available on Far Fetch and Matches, the range isn’t cheap and I’m not sure the internet does it justice (sort out your proportions please online retailers), so I may end up getting out my sewing machine after all!
Love these fab-u-lous prints! I’m always amazed that despite our richly diverse culture fashion rarely shows that heritage. Wonder why?
