I shot this fabulously stylish woman at Hampton Court Flower Show last week, as we both queued up to get in to my favourite floral event of the year -it’s much better than Chelsea as you can buy the plants, whoever thought it was a good idea NOT to be able to buy them?!
This fatigue-floral-combo is a great way to take some of the girly-ness out of florals, making them more kick-ass. It was a blisteringly hot day yet she looked super-cool and I loved how she sharpened the look with a khaki coloured jacket and a red star cap. It was a way to do floral with an unexpected edge and all the better for it.
The cotton dress, which was bought in ‘an antique shop’ according to our model. has a great retro floral rose print that looks grown up rather than cutesy and is beautifully matched to the Mandarin jacket (bought in China) with its light touch of oriental embroidery detail. The shoes are perfect for the heat and provided the look with a functional-but-stylish balance.
Diamante daisy elastics in her hair ensured a touch of glamour…I’m so doing this at home, I’m going to hunt out old brooches in my jewellery box and attach them to covered elastics. or something along those lines….Also I love how the bling is not on the sunglasses (at all) and all in the hair.
The whole look was a really fresh way to florals. Fatigue florals- love it!
Gardeners can be stylish too!
Has anyone else noticed that Carol Klein always looks good.
I love that she ‘pots on’ in a designer jacket, I know it’s telly but it’s an inspiring image.
Sarah, we wrote about Carole Klein here http://www.thewomensroomblog.com/2009/05/22/style-icon-carol-klein/
