If you are a regular reader you will be familiar with my life long quest for the perfect red lipstick.
I was recently disappointed when I tried Tom Ford‘s Cherry Lush, which has been heralded as an iconic red.The colour was too purple based and because its moist, it simply doesn’t stay on – and apart from the nice packaging, for me, there isn’t anything to make worth £36.
It seemed nothing could beat Lipstick Queen’s Red Sinner for the ultimate matt coverage – or so I thought, until I was sent Velvet Rope, the latest luxury lipstick from Lipstick Queen.
I am always a little skeptical about anything termed luxury and after my Tom Ford experience, I was beginning to think it just meant expensive. But not so, as Poppy King the founder of Lipstick Queen is a total geek (in a good way) when it comes to lipstick and has created a truly luxurious new product.
Velvet Rope delivers an intense colour in an incredibly smooth way, due to a combination of Silicone Elastomer and natural Candelillam, Carnauba, Beeswax, Vitamin E and Apricot oil. The final magic ingredient is Peppermint oil, which adds a fresh, tingling scent.
In short, it’s smooth and velvety, but this doesn’t distract from the intensity of the colour and it stays on. I tried Brat pack (red) , but it also comes in Hot Pink, Wine, Deep Red and Nude.
It also has a magnetic heavy weight, vintage inspired gold case which makes it even more luxurious. It’s out in September and is £35, but this time it is worth it.
