If Bill Bryson had taught history at my school, or even written the history text books to be as entertaining as this is, I’d have become an historian. I absolutely love the easy accessibility of Bill’s writing, he spices up dry facts with engrossing and personal stories which are so easy to remember. I feel cleverer after reading a Bill Bryson book, particularly this one, which looks at America’s action packed year of 1927. I bought this to read while I was in California and it helped set the tone and in a small way helped me see recent American history in a new light. Bryson fans wont be disappointed.
