The Last Runaway, by Tracy Chevalier

Attention all quilters, this is a book you might want to check out.

You may all remember the lovely Tracy Chevalier wrote Girl With A Pearl Earring,  this is her latest tale, wrapped up in quilts, applique, Quakerism and slavery. It’s beautifully descriptive, with lovely attention to detail around how important quilts were in the 1850s, looking at the different styles favoured by her characters, which include the English, early white American settlers and black American slaves. Tracy captures the calm and peace the act of sewing can bring, something that wont be lost on any needlework fans. Made me want to pick up my patchwork again.

A really good ‘don’t-want-this-to-end’ read. Buy here The Last Runaway

For anyone really interested in quilting, check out the exhibition Things We Do In Bed Tracy has curated for Danson House. Looks fabulous.
