Older Women Continue to Inspire

My love of Iris Apfel has never wavered since I discovered her way back in the day before the whole world celebrated her style. Her honest opinions and seemingly tireless ability to remain a style icon, aged 96 – are an inspiration.

She appeared in the July issue of Vogue Portugal, looking every inch the stylish eccentric on the streets of her beloved New York.

She has also recently published a book – Accidental Icon.

Since taking creative control at Gucci, Alessandro Michelle has been referencing Faye Dunaway in his collections. For A/W 15  he featured her iconic red beret and in 2016 models sported the fur coats worn by Dunaway’s character in Eyes of Laura Mars.

The latest mini film to promote Gucci’s Sylvie bag, features Dunaway and French singer Soko, who stars as the actresses stylish daughter.

Fabulous, glamorous and life affirming – if you try to ignore the 77 year old actresses unnaturally smooth face!

And finally the September issue of UK Vogue is out and features Rihanna (not an older woman this time) looking incredible. Styling is by editor Edward Enninful, hair & make up by Isamaya Ffrench and photography by Nick Knight.

  • I just had this conversation with a well known woman artist of 75 and a designer in her fifties. We all agreed that the best way to age is to embrace your unique self and dress to celebrate the person you are. Do not be dictated to by trends or chase youth. Iris certainly is a prime example of this!
