Anyone who went clubbing in the 80’s will love the crowd funded book, We can Be Heroes. A collaboration between writer (and former clothes designer and singer from Blue Rondo a la Turk) Chris Sullivan and photographer Graham Smith, the book showcases previously unpublished pictures taken by Smith at the height of the 80’s London club scene. An insider portrait of a decade when dressing up was a way of life, the book perfectly captures the clubs that made post punk London the most exciting place to be since the 60’s.
There is an introduction by Robert Elms, memoirs by Boy George, Gary Kemp and Steve Strange and 500 quotes from more than fifty of the main faces on the scene.
And it is the most wonderful book – a real trip down memory lane. I got a bit misty-eyed reading it! I picked up my copy just before Xmas and the first print was ‘selling like hot cakes’, so get it before it goes…..
Oh I was just talking about this today – must order a copy!
Oh thanks Jude, I havent ordered it yet but will do now
Jx
PS anyone you know in there?
Lots of familiar faces and names, but no personal friends
I wasn’t clubbing in the 80’s but this sounds absolutely fascinating. I would love to read it.
