We were sad to wake up to the news that one of our favourite style icons Zelda Kaplan, had died yesterday.
95 year old Zelda was a regular on the New York social scene, telling New York magazine in 2010, that her bedtime was ‘anytime between midnight and 7am’.
Full of energy and enthusiasm, Zelda was a successful ballroom dancer and golf pro in Miami beach in her 20’s, a doctors wife in New York in her 30’s, and spent her 60’s and 70’s in Africa and Asia, campaigning for the prevention of female genital mutilation.
Known for her original outfits, she often bought fabric while travelling, which she had made into her signature dresses and matching hats.
She famously never used medicine and told New York magazine, she was fond of Shiraz and spent her days reading books and newspapers, ‘which provides me great knowledge to empower people through daily conversations, and through my charitable efforts.’
Zelda was out about yesterday at NYFW, doing what she loved. She died while sitting on the front row of the Joanna Mastroianni catwalk show.
What an icon!
