Florence Broadhurst, Her Secret & Extraordinary Lives, By Helen O’Neill

Florence Broadhurst was an extraordinary woman who was born on an isolated Australian farm in 1899. At 15 she wrote an article for her school paper saying “I am resolved to do great things.” By 19 she was singing her way around Australia and by 25 had travelled to most of Asia. After decades of travelling, she returned to Australia posing as an English aristocrat and joined an elite social set. At 63, she set up a wallpaper company “to put the colour back into people’s lives” and created over 800 hugely popular patterns and designs. In 1977, aged of 78, Broadhurst was found murdered in her Sydney wallpaper showroom. Her murder remains unsolved.
