I have long admired designer Dries Van Noten for his individual talent, refusal to follow trends and ability to remove himself from the celebrity obssessed fashion world.
The fact that his S/S16 collection is ticking all the fashion boxes for its maximalist blend of colour and pattern is probably part zeitgeist, part coincidence, as Dries has always favoured an eclectic approach to colour and pattern and has been out of favour – with the fashion powers that be – in the last few years of Celine inspired minimalism.
Like Marni, Dries fans admire his timeless clothes, as they transcend seasonal trends to become treasured pieces, worn for years and years..
The designer lives and works in Antwerp and says he ‘maintains a healthy distance from the fashion world’. He loves gardening and find inspiration in the flowers and vegetables that he grows.
“The plants, the flowers, my vegetable garden, these things give me a sense of balance. You learn things from your garden, about who you are and how you live. It teaches you humility”.
This week Vogue featured images of the designers beautiful house and garden.
You can definitely see how his garden inspires his work.
My favourite S/S16 collection so far – now where’s that lottery ticket?
Wow! Exciting clothes, beautiful colours and textures and ones that I believe could be worn by women of any age.
What a gorgeous garden. I really love DVN and Marni for the prints and textures. My absolute favourite Winter coat is a green tweed DVN, bought a million years ago in the Liberty sale. Have you seen the Raf Simons/Dior film, Jane? The colours in that are beautiful, too, and the Sterling Ruby fabric.
Yes loved the Dior film Sue and DVN is always a good investment in my book
